Had a fun and yummy science lesson in Ms. Perez's class today! We reviewed the eight different phases of the moon with Oreos. A big thank you to Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Jacquinot for being our guest volunteers!

The kids, Mrs. Strode's, that are where they need to be in AR to reach their goals by the end of April received an ice cream treat from me today.

Ms. Perez's class used their classroom globe to learn all about what it takes to create night and day!

On Friday we learned what makes snow appear white. To tie in a math concept we talked about lines of symmetry. Students used geo boards and bands to create their own snowflakes and other designs with lines of symmetry. This was a fun and creative activity!

More snowflakes and symmetrical shapes designed by some fantastically creative students.

Math centers were such a success. We had so much fun reviewing 2 digit addition and subtraction before we start 3 digit math problems this week.

Way to go to this little Vike. He doubled his AR goal for the year and reached 100 points. Mr. Medina has a deal with his students that if they double their year goal then they will receive a happy meal for their hard work and determination.

More big accomplishments since coming back from winter break! We are so proud of all of Garfield's hardworking students!

Kynlee has passed her Study Island Reading topics!

James has passed his Study Island Math topics!

Monday our playground had the beautiful remnants of the recent snowfall. The afternoon was warm and students enjoyed playing in the snow.

Tuesday brought another warm afternoon and another opportunity to enjoy the snow. These kiddos built a snowman on the playground. Recess was short, but so much fun!

This week, Ms. Perez's class took a virtual field trip in a spacecraft! The students had a lot of fun while learning interesting facts about space.

No school on Friday, January 10, because of inclement weather.

The cold weather kept us indoors but recess was still fun anyway. Some played games alone and with others on their iPads. Some used STEM materials to build and others chose to read or do interactive chase games using the smart board.

Way to go! Copper passed the last of his second grade Study Island math topics today. He had been working with determination to achieve this goal!

It was snowing at dismissal and the students really enjoyed their few minutes enjoying the fresh flakes.

It's so hard to learn when it's snowing outside! Quick break to enjoy it
