Parsons High School students auditioned for the Southeast Kansas Music Educators Association (SEKMEA) District Honors Orchestra and Choir and 18 were selected to participate in this honorary performance.
“I was proud of them for even doing it,” PHS orchestra teacher Lauren Burke said of her students stepping up to audition.
Any schools in the 15 county Southeast Kansas area with orchestra, band and/or choir programs can compete.
PHS students will go Dec. 2 to Pittsburg to the Bicknell Center and rehearse all day along with students chosen from other schools. That evening, they will perform in concert for the public.
PHS students chosen to participate in the SEKMEA Honors Orchestra and Choir are:
Violin 1 - Brianna Boucher and Madelyn Armitage.
Violin 2 – Joseph Cervantes and Lillian Ward.
Viola –Makenzie Taliafero and Myles Sweigart.
Cello –Conner Barcus, Evan Valdez and Addy Hetlinger.
Bass –Caden Valdez, Landan Swafford and Brelin Summers.
Choir – Grayson Bolt, Bass 2; Jaxen Bolt, Bass 2; Aidan Gomez, Tenor 1; Oliver Helton, Tenor 1; Cadence
Manners, Alto 1; and Aidan Marshall, Bass 1.
“I thought they did great. They were prepared,” Burke said. “I was really happy with my kids that landed first chair in their section.”
