Mrs. Brumback and Mrs. Armstrong’s classes enjoyed sampling past vs. present types of Thanksgiving foods. The favorite past food seemed to be the jerky and the favorite present, the pumpkin pie.

Mr. Holmes’ class enjoyed Greenbush’s mobile lab, today! We dissected DNA from strawberries, learned about different barriers that prevent disease, and we learned how water pools up in various landforms.

Part 1: Fourth grade students got to experience the KDHE Mobile Lab today. They were able to extract DNA from strawberries, learn about water sheds, and also see how easy/hard it is to spread germs by washing hands, sanitizing, wearing a face mask, or being 6 feet apart.

Happy Thanksgiving
Mr. Holmes’ and Mrs. Gordon’s students worked together to make “pumpkin pie in a cup,” today. Add pudding, milk, pumpkin, and whipped cream in a Ziploc, and pass the bag around for everyone to squish. After crushing up cinnamon graham crackers in the bottom of your cup, add a scoop of the pumpkin pie mix, and top with a dollop of whipped cream. Delicious!

The State of Kansas would like for us to help bring awareness to two of the educational savings programs that are offered through the State Treasurer's Office. The first program is the LearningQuest 529 Educational Savings Program. With this program, families can save for their children's higher education expenses in a tax-advantages 529 investment account. In addition, the State of Kansas offers the K.I.D.S. Matching Grant program to families earning less than 200% of the federal poverty level, see the attached file for more details. The second program is for high school students who are close to enrolling for college, it is called the Scholarshop. This is a search engine created by a partnership with Sallie Mae that offers students access to a database of 6 million different scholarships. For more information: https://5il.co/1l3k7

In our Native American unit, students in Mrs. Brimm’s class learned about totem poles. Then they created a totem pole to represent them and/or their family. Last, they wrote about their totem poles and described why they designed it the way they did. They did a great job!
